This release is mostly about Save As doing what it says, and about the Find box finally being clickable.

Save As, fixed 💾

Manual save stopped working after Save As. Once you'd done File → Save As on a Word document, ⌘S and File → Save silently did nothing — no error, no change on disk — and everything typed afterwards was lost unless you happened to click another tab and come back. Save now follows the document to its new name and keeps working.

Save As on a PDF dropped your highlights. Highlight or annotate a PDF, Save As, and the copy came back clean. The saved copy now contains exactly what's on screen, in both PDF viewers.

Nothing lost on quit

Following on from last release's quit-time save:

• A workspace you never saved (the "Untitled workspace" case) is now written on quit, so it's under Recent when you come back.

• Anything you type while the quit save is running no longer disappears — you get the usual prompt.

• Save & Close no longer closes the app if the Save As dialog was cancelled or the save failed; the prompt stays up.

• Pressing ⌘Q twice in a row no longer creates a duplicate workspace.

Find actually works 🔍

⌘F in a Word document used to open the Find box underneath the floating toolbar, where you couldn't click it. It now sits above the toolbar. While we were there:

• ⌘F puts the cursor back in the Find box when the box is already open and you've clicked into the document.

• The Settings, account, workspace and tab + menus open on top of the Find box instead of behind it.

• Pressing Escape no longer closes a Find box left open on a different tab.

Website tabs stay put 🌐

• Research tabs now survive closing your last document and quitting Donna. If you keep Donna open purely to house logged-in browser tabs, they'll be there when you come back.

• Open Website always opens a new tab, so you can have two Google tabs side by side — and both come back after a restart. Bookmarks and links still reuse an existing tab.

• Websites now appear in the Project tree, where you can drag and group them alongside your documents.

Home and navigation

• Deleting a workspace now asks first. The trash icon on Recent Workspaces used to delete immediately on click.

• The Donna mark is back in the title bar, on every screen, as a one-click way Home.

• Recent Workspaces can be switched between the list view and the widget view.

• Back returns you to the workspace you just left, instead of jumping to Home when that workspace hadn't been saved yet.

Smoother typing ⌨️

Long documents used to lag slightly while typing, because the status-bar word count recounted the whole document on every keystroke. It now updates about a second after you stop.

Also fixed 🐛

• Narrowing the floating toolbar no longer pushes the Format–References row off the side of the page; it shrinks and scrolls, and you can mouse-wheel along it.

• The document sidebar grows and shrinks as you add and remove documents.

• Floating tab pills no longer overlap the top of the page when the ruler is turned off.

• On Mac, Word files and PDFs now have their own Finder icons — blue for Word, red for PDF — instead of looking identical.

This release is mostly about one thing: your work being on disk when you think it is.

Autosave, fixed 💾

If a document came back from a session switch or a restored workspace, autosave quietly stopped for that tab. The tab looked completely normal, and the file on disk never changed. That's fixed — those documents autosave again from the first edit.

While we were in there:

• The tab now tells the truth. It used to say "Saved" whenever an autosave finished, even if the export or the write had failed. It now shows Not saved in red, and the save confirmation only appears when the bytes actually reached disk.

• Documents the assistant edits autosave too.

• Converted .doc files no longer report a successful save when the write didn't go through.

Nothing lost on quit

• Add a document to a workspace and quit straight away, and the tab is still there when you reopen it. Previously anything added in the last minute was dropped.

• After Save As on an untitled document, the quit prompt no longer asks whether you want to save "Untitled".

Highlights Word and DocuSign accept 🖍️

There was no way to remove a highlight in Donna, so people picked white — which wrote a colour value Word tolerates and strict readers don't. Contracts came back rejected by DocuSign.

• No highlight now sits at the top of both highlight menus and actually removes the highlight, including highlights that come from a character style in a firm template.

• The palette is now Word's own 15 highlight colours, in Word's order. White is gone, because it was never really a colour anyone wanted.

• Every save now quietly repairs invalid highlight values, so a document damaged by an earlier build is fixed the next time you save it.

Account and navigation move up into the title bar

Your account lives on the far right of the title bar now — click it for Settings or Sign out. Both have left the bottom of the side nav. Back and forward are now full arrows sitting just right of the window buttons, and the Donna button (which only ever took you Home) is gone.

Spelling suggestions in the in-app browser

Right-click a misspelled word in a browser tab and you get the corrections and Add to dictionary, instead of just Copy. On macOS, where the browser keeps its suggestions to itself, Donna's own checker fills them in.

The assistant can read the files it opens

Ask it to open two documents and quote from them and it now actually reads them, rather than insisting it can only see your empty Untitled tab. If you point it at a PDF, it says the document tools can't work on it instead of going quiet.

Also fixed 🐛

• The save icon shows the right state when a document is first opened.

• Ruler and footnote/endnote fixes in the document editor.

Projects are now the center 🎯

We’ve redesigned the app around Projects. Instead of a flat list of files, everything—workspaces, materials, and files—now lives inside a project. It’s a much more natural way to organize your work.

• Project-centric navigation: Everything is scoped to the project you're working on.

• History: Use back and forward buttons to move across different views.

• Quick rename: Rename a project in place from any sub-view.

Materials & Library 📚

Every project now has its own Library. Think of it as your project's command center for information, kept right where you're working rather than in a separate tab.

• Notebook & Documents: Each library has two halves—a Notebook for your own scratchpads and a document library for your source materials.

• Manage your sources: Upload documents from your computer, search them by name, and preview them instantly without leaving the view.

• Quick access: A new Materials card on your project overview shows your five most recent items so you can jump back in fast.

• Bulk actions: Select multiple documents at once to organize or remove them in one go.

Legacy .doc files just open 📄

Still have old Word files? Just double-click a .doc file and it converts instantly. You can edit it in the normal editor and it saves right back out—no extra steps required.

Work from anywhere (even offline) ✈️

The app now stays usable without an internet connection. Your changes are kept, and the app launches cleanly even on a cold start with no network. We've also ensured that server-backed controls are clearly disabled so you aren't left wondering why a button isn't clicking.

Faster PDF conversion ⚡

Converting a DOCX to a PDF is now significantly faster. We’ve moved the conversion to happen locally on your machine instead of sending it back and forth to a server. It’s faster and more secure.

Billing & Feedback 💬

• AI Credits: We've replaced the old quota meters with a clear AI credit display. You'll also get a helpful prompt if you happen to run out.

• In-app Feedback: You can now submit and vote on feature requests without leaving the app, thanks to our new built-in feedback widget.

Small but mighty fixes 🐛

• Clean sessions: No more expired session errors; the app now refreshes your login before it dies.

• Sorted Sidebars: Your file tree now stays organized alphabetically.
